Why Condition Water?
Tap water often contains chlorine, chloramine, and even heavy metals that can seriously harm your Betta.
Even if your water looks crystal clear, those invisible chemicals can irritate gills and stress out your fish.
Water conditioners neutralize these harmful compounds, making tap water safe for your tank. They can also help detoxify ammonia and coat your fish in protective slime coat support.
The Most Recommended Method: Liquid Water Conditioners
These are your go-to products. Just follow the dosage on the label, usually a few drops per gallon.

Other Conditioning Methods
While not as effective as liquid products, there are other methods that can help remove chlorine:
Aging WAter
Let it sit in an open container for 24 hours. Chlorine evaporates, but chloramine? Not so much.
Boiling
Some filter media includes this, which helps, but don’t rely on it alone.
Activated Carbon
Some filters come with carbon inserts that help reduce chlorine, but this method alone isn’t enough.
These can work in a pinch, but for full peace of mind, stick with a proven conditioner.
Do I Still Need to Test Water?
Yes, yes, and yes!
Conditioning neutralizes harmful chemicals, but it doesn’t balance your pH or tell you what your ammonia levels are doing.
A good liquid test kit is your Betta’s BFF.
